The South Waikato provides a number of comparative advantages for businesses located in the District. Its central location, low cost of land and buildings and well developed primary industries, including Manufacturing, Forestry and Dairy Farming, all work to the business sectors advantage.
Add to that a commercially sensitive and supportive District Council who are happy to assist and support new and existing businesses. We have a proven track record of pushing through consents for major developments including completing resource consent for the Lochfield Cheese Factory in 10 weeks and having the factory in production within 12 months.
Zoned land is readily available with facilities ready for development to accommodate both industrial and residential expansion. Even in the current economic climate there is continued investment in development and expansion of current businesses, unlike many areas in New Zealand. Figures from the Quarterly review March 2008 showed there were 141 building consents issued for the construction and alteration of non-residential buildings, a rise of 4.4% from the year ended March 2007, compared with a 1.7% decrease nationally during the same period. The value of non-residential building consents was $16.4 million, up 40.9% from the previous year.
