Affordable Housing and Property

There is a wide range of housing available from the lower price range to up market rural lifestyle blocks. The good news is that quality homes on family sized sections are priced within a range that is very accessible. The 2006 Census figures showed 68.4% of households in private occupied dwellings own the dwelling. This compares with the national average of 68.9% household ownership.

Renting properties is also inexpensive in comparison to larger centres with results from January 2009 – June 2009 showing a three bedroom house costs between $160 and $190 per week to rent in the District.

Interest is high from families seeking affordable living and a great place to bring up their children, retirees seeking a more relaxed lifestyle, and an increasing number of people operating home-based businesses. They can choose to live and work where they have the advantage of easy access to entertainment and other services available in the larger cities, without the frustration of traffic density and high costs of city living.
