2008 Census and Demographic Data Analysis Status Report

This report references the previous Council reports and also recent Statistics New Zealand publications to establish a scenario for future population and demographic change that can be used for asset management planning purposes.  The report also discusses other relevant economic social patterns and trends, where they might realistically affect population levels and demographic make up.

The analysis of population and demographic change is a core component of the analysis of future infrastructure asset need.

It is apparent from this information that the previous population decline in the District has ceased. The District demographic mix is changing with less children and younger workers, and more elderly people.  This trend in change in demographics is of concern and will need to be addressed to ensure that adequate labour force is available to service the projected economic growth.
