The purpose of the Arapuni Concept Plan is to guide planning by the ARA, South Waikato District Council, Mighty River Power Limited (MRP) and the local community. It builds on key aspects of the Arapuni Village Strategic Plan developed in 2003 by the Arapuni Residents’ Association (ARA).
A key aspect of the Arapuni Concept Plan is development of a dedicated area for Visitor Parking adjacent to the end of the Swing Bridge Walkway. The visitor experience will be further enhanced through landscaping, a local Arts Trail, Visitor Café and amenities.
The Arapuni Concept Plan is signalling a leadership direction of becoming South Waikato’s tourism “slow town”. This includes off-street visitor parking, improved traffic safety, Visitor Café, arts opportunities, lake attractions, walking trails, branding and streetscape improvements while remaining a relaxed and relatively affordable place to live.
The vision is that from 2010 and beyond, Arapuni will be a tourism destination and visitor stop-off recognised throughout New Zealand for its unique character and rural charm. This Concept Plan describes principles and actions under three overlapping themes which were developed following initial community consultation: · Tourism Slow Town · Excellent Services, Facilities and Infrastructure · Family and Youth Friendly.
